What To Know Concerning Lake Of The Woods Fishing

Lake Fishing on Mar-29-2010

Located on the Canadian border in Minnesota, Lake of the Woods is a large lake that offers fishing as well as many other outdoor sports. No matter what season you are at the lake, you will find that Lake of the Woods fishing is some of the greatest. In addition, there are many opportunities for craft fairs and other shopping.

This large lake offers many bays located along the miles of shoreline. There are also over 1400 islands located on the lake. While here, you may fish for Northern pike, sauger, walleye, small mouth bass or perch. It seems as if something is always biting at the lake.

As the temperature of the lake transitions in the fall and in the spring the best fishing is in the warmer shallow waters. When the lake hits its warmest temperatures in the summer, the fish prefer the cooler shade of the rock reefs. Winter months offer excellent ice fishing. Each season offers great fishing if you follow the fish.

Fishing huts are allowed on the lake through March. Huts can be rented locally along with equipment. Of course you can bring your own equipment. Ice fishing allows anglers to be thirty or more miles out on the lake during the winter. Be sure to call ahead before planning a visit near the end of March, as warming temperatures may make it unsafe to be on the ice.

Walleye season ends about mid April. This gives two weeks after the huts have to be off of the lake. Fishing for other species is available the remainder of the year. Northern pike season never ends at Lake of the Woods.

You will find there are many activities in the area other than Lake of the Woods fishing. Your family may enjoy snowmobiling during the winter. Other parts of the years offer great golfing, flea markets, craft fairs and other opportunities for shopping.
