Lake of the Woods is located in Minnesota, near the Canadian border. In addition to the fishing on the lake, you will find many forms of wildlife. No matter what season of the year, you will find Lake of the Woods fishing is among the best in the world.
This lake is large and offers may bays along its many miles of shoreline. In addition, you will find over 14000 islands on the lake. Fish found in the lake include walleye, sauger, northern pike, small mouth bass and perch.
In the spring and fall as the lake temperatures are starting to warm from winter or cool from the summer, fishing is best in the shallow water. During the summer the fish enjoy the shade of the rock reefs and fishing is good there. Winter months are excellent for ice fishing.
Ice fishing huts are allowed on the lake through the end of March. You will find several places to rent the huts as well as the equipment for ice fishing if you do not have your own equipment. Ice fishing allows you to fish twenty or thirty miles out on the ice.
The season for walleye ends a couple of weeks after the ice huts are no longer allowed on the lake. Even though you cannot fish for walleye, the fishing at the lake remains great year round. At Lake of the Woods, there is no season end for Northern pike. They can be taken year round.
