Where you find water, you find fishing, and Kentucky lake fishing is some of the best in the US, as the waters of these 2 lakes makes them the largest in America. 170 000 acres of water surrounded by recreation areas makes this a favorite with vacationers.

Down the length of the Tennessee River you will find nine reservoirs and Kentucky Lakes are the two largest. The Kentucky Dam was built and finished in 1944 and it back up this river for 184 miles, or if you like, the same as 155 339 football fields. The second lake, Lake Barkley was built in the 1950’s by the Engineers Corps of the US Army, and both lakes connect by a navigable canal.
Fishing and many other sports take place all through the year, winter included, but in the winter, the favorite sport is bird watching. Eagles can be spotted as well as many other migratory birds and it is a favorite spot for the more red blooded hunters, who can bag both duck and geese.
Fishing for crappie starts in the late winter and this continues into May, and although these fish move around a good deal, they move back into the shallows by April and this is also the time for Black Bass season to start. Bass fishing in the US is almost an obsession and this is understandable as trophy fishing wins massive prizes.
For less strenuous fishing pursuits, panfish are a popular catch and bluegill is one of the favorites. Kentucky lake fishing also allows the angler to stretch their line with redear; this is one of the popular shell cracker fish. Some of the top US tournaments visit Kentucky Lakes and you will find the Bassmaster Elite Series, the FLW series, the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League and the Stren Series. There are massive b ass populations in these lakes as you can well imagine.
Because fishing for crappies in this area is also extremely popular, tournaments such as the Crappie USA tournament and Crappie Masters also visit the area. But for bigger fish to fry anglers also catch sauger, striped, yellow, white and yellow bass, blue and channel catfish as well as flathead.
The Kentucky Lakes are however more than just recreational areas and they are used to manufacture TVA hydroelectricity as well as control flooding on the Ohio and Mississippi and rivers.
Every year, as many as 17 million visitors flock to the shores of these great lakes, a large percentage of these are fishermen, but most are vacationers. If you think that it is home to uncountable boat docks, state parks, ninety two recreation areas of a commercial nature, country parks, national parks, wildlife management and refuge areas, group camps, municipal parks and 2 400 miles of shoreline, this is hardly surprising.
